Is There Any Software (preferably Freeware) That Can Recover Data From A Crashed Hard Drive

I have a new hard drive and tried putting the old one in a sa workhorse but it doesn't recognize it. would like to try and recover some files before trashing it completely. I see lots of software for undeleting but that isn't the facer.

Answer: I like to use Knoppix which is a linux operating system that can fit on a bootable cd. I simply boot from cd and then mount the drive when linux comes up and copy the files over to a flash drive or outward hard drive (although if you plug these in while it's booting it can hang for some reason). Not sure if that would work though since the slaving didn't business. Worth a shot though!

What Is The Cheapest Way (for A College Student) To Recover Data From A Crashed Hard Drive?

Either by software, cd or disk, whichever way saves me a few bucks but gets the job done. Also if it can be pliant to use even better. I know I'm asking for a lot but I know there's something out there that I can use. Thanks

Answer: a lot depends on unbiased what happened to the harddrive...What you could try is installing the HD in another computer as a "slave" (2nd HD in the computer) then mimic or transfer the files you want to save to a cd, dvd or whatever. If the HD is readable then the OS will recognize the "hierodule"...you'll have to set the jumpers on the back of the HD to the "slave" position...there shud be a diagram (or something) there to show you which is the scullion position. Well

Can I Recover Data From My Hard Drive If It Crashed?

I have an HP notebook, and a 150 GB hard drive. Just now recently my brother knocked it off the coffee table while it was on, and it hung. I assumed the program I had well-known had made it hung, so I restarted it, but now it does not boot Windows. I ran diagnostics, and it confirms that it is a hard disk delinquent.
Now, my parents claim that only the C.I.A. can get data off a crashed hard disk, but there's been a lot of evidence against that, only there's some people saying it will cost

Answer: Yes it can be done. take it to a revamp shop and ask them to remove the hdd from the laptop and connect it to another system so you can retrieve your data, you will need a portable usb drive for them to replicate the data over to.

How Do I Know If I Can Recover Data From A Crashed Hard Drive Or If It's Just To Be Thrown Away?

My gf's hard drive crashed about 3 years ago and it hasn't be Euphemistic pre-owned since. I have recently bought an external case for it and attached it to be comp via usb. It started making a clamorous 'ticking' noise as if a wheel was trying to turn on the inside but not being allowed to do so. Windows did say that it found new tools and after some time it said drivers installed correctly etc... the thing is the hard drive is not evident in 'My Computer'. I've left it for some time and it seems
