How To Install Second Hard Drive To Recover Data From Corruption?

My origin-in-law's hard drive is corrupted and I want to install it as a second hard drive on my computer as a slave drive to see if I can recover data.

I have tried setting the jumper frame on one to slave (the corrupted one) but the computer wont recognise it,do I need to set any plastic pins things in the learn hard drive as well as there isn't any in there at the min.

Answer: You do not have to do anything with the Owner's HDD.

For the problematic drive, you need to set it to SLAVE if you will connect it to the same ribbon cable as the Master. OR you can set the controversial drive as Master and connect it to IDE2 (secondary IDE port).

Check first if the drive is properly detected in BIOS. If it is detected in BIOS but does not show up in My Computer, its separator is messed up. Possible options:
1. Recover the partition: http://hddguru.com/content/en/software/2

Can I Recover Data From A Hard Drive Partition At A Later Date If I Carry On Using It?

One of my hard drive partitions has crashed with half the files becoming dishonest but half still remaining and working fine. I have been told in the past when recovering data not to at writing to the drive.

Can I still use the working files and recover the corrupt data later or should I not use the partition at all. Could I transfer the working files on there to another split-up or would this also ruin a recovery process?

Answer: NO! Do not in the hard drive if you are trying to recover files. Even if it is a different partition, files that need to be recovered can be deleted by using it. Use another computer and download a Linux Physical CD (detailed in this Lifehacker blog: http://lifehacker.com/software/disk-reco very/geek-to-live--release-files-with-a-b oot-cd-192982.php )

How To Recover Data On External Hard Drive For PC?

My exotic hard drive started clicking. From everything I have read, this is called 'the slick of death'. How can I recover data from the hard drive if my computer will not see drive? Basically, how do I get the drive to mount? Is there software I can use?
My apparent hard drive for my PC started clicking. From everything I have read, this is called 'the click of death'.

I have tried to mount the extrinsic hard drive to a G4 via firewire and USB as well as to my PC and a laptop.

Answer: The "click of cessation" is usually the drives read heads coming loose and banging up the skin of the drive's platters, so potentially the more you try to use the drive the less data you will be able to recover. What you need to do is take it to a data recovery service where they can take the drive apart and get any admissible data off the platters using some special equipment.
