Installing Pre-installed Windows Vista On New Hard Drive? |
Question by Pete | Posted in Software
I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 that I bought 3 years ago with Vista Key pre-installed. I'm running out of hard drive space, so I decided now would be a good duration to upgrade. I bought a new much bigger hard drive, and I would like to upgrade to Windows 7. Since the upgrade version of win 7 is much cheaper than the full version, I would like to find a way to induct my Vista on my new HD, then upgrade. The product key is labeled on the bottom of my computer. When I go to "computer", it shows
Answer: basically if you dont have Vista OS Positioning CD, you can NOT move sys files to another HDD. You can find a friend with Vista OEM CD, reinstall using key u have, then Upgrade to Win 7
Or if you want, you can upgrade to the same HDD, obstruct new HDD as secondary drive, use that for Video and Music.
it is great move just in case old HDD collapse, all your files are on separate location. |
