Home PC, SATA 250Gb, Working Perfectly XP But Dh Installed Linux On It. File Shrunk, 'cannot Be Seen'. Help! |
Question by 'Charlotte' | Posted in Desktops
Light-hearted to take PC to a data recovery expert, but they all seem so expensive. Have written a novel on computer and fragments of others, and have spent ages getting all the right-minded software downloaded etc, which I would like to recover, so cannot just wipe the disc and start again. (Preserve said I wouldn't need a back up - so there is none!) Is there any way to get my data back?
Many thanks
| Answer: It all depends what options he chose when he installed Linux. It may be that your XP placement is still intact in a Windows (FAT32/NTFS) partition on the harddisk. A classic problem is that the Linux boot-loader refuses to let you boot from the Windows sharing out or the Master Boot Record has become corrupted. A good IT technician should be able to become these problems, so take it to your local PC shop which provides technical services. This will cost you but nothing like what data-recovery firms |

As the data on the disk is so important I irrefutable to immediately take it to a DataRecoverCenter here where I live (police, courts use them so they are good). The issue is the expense. Can I have it solved cheaper, maintaining integrity of my data by trying other alternatives?
