Tape Recovery Freeware?

Where can I find mini DV tape recovery freeware. I have overwritten a mini DV tape, but shouldn't have, and i want to get the data I wrote over. I'd prefer not to send my tape into a company to have them recover the data, and I don't want to buy software.

Answer: You cannot 'undelete' a tape the same way you can with a ruthless drive as it works in a very different way. You've had it, I'm afraid. And if you could - it certainly wouldn't be 'free'.
 
 

Question About Data Archiving And Recovery?

I am a former critic at NAU and needed to see what mail I received and/or sent during a month-timeframe several years ago. However, I do not remember if such data is stored or even kept in backup archives (such as tape backup or microfiche).

This would be the Dana system at Northern Arizona University. I am exasperating to re-establish contact with a computer user I sent a game to in 1996 (which, unfortunately, I no longer have the ingenious of or even same source code).

Answer: Paul, that will depend on the NAU's backup archive procedure. Every network admin worth their salt has some form of data backup. But for college schoolgirl user accounts, I doubt seriously they'd have them going back "several years ago."

Still, nothing ventured nothing gained. Go on the NAU situate and see if you can even log in with your old user name and password. If you can, you might still have the original email in the sent folder. If you can't, call (don't email)

I have bear it taped the 2 bits together and tried to read it with data recovery software but no luck...

Answer: It's beaten and that is the end of the story. Anything on it is unrecoverable so you might just as well throw it in the bin now for what use it is.

Well I suppose you could superglue it together and use it as a coaster!

Take it as a moral to keep them in their protective cases at all times except when your using them.
