Data Retrieval? |
My laptop stopped working last sundown, and I took it back to Best Buy, where I purchased it. I have the service plan, so it will be repaired for no charge BUT they told me that its addendum for data retrieval. Anywhere from $260 to upwards of $800 depending on what "level' of work it Byzantine to get the data. Am I getting ripped off or is that really the going rate to have a service like that done? Thanks.
| Answer: It depends on what description of hardware is damaged. If it's the hard drive, then it will certainly be difficult to retrieve the data. If it's any other component then all they for is to put the hard drive into another computer and save it to dvd's or an external drive. When you say your laptop stopped working, what's the increase of the damage? Does it turn on and freezes? Do you see any error message or bios strainer loading? Or does it simply won't turn on? If it's a software |
