How To Recovery Data Information On My Mac? (ext HD Was Plugged In To A Windows Box, Now I Get Nothing)?

I was continuous my Mac OS from an external hard drive, when i plugged the external HD into a windows machine to stake some music files, it asked to initialize, i said OK, then it asked to format, i said Nope. When i plugged it back in my app, it would own and needs to be initialized again on my Mac. Question, how do i recover my data? i didn't format the drive so the data should be there, i'm frightened to initialize because i don't want to lose the data... any help or software recommendations

Answer: You're quite hosed...when Windows initialized the drive it probably overwrote the file system headers on the actuate. You could potentially try some sort of data recovery software, but in all likelihood, that data is gone.

I'm neutral wondering... How does data recovery work? Do people doing it take your hard manoeuvre out and run it through software? What can they find out? What kind of information is saved? How can I block personal information? Stuff like that...

How Do I Securely Delete My Entire Hard Drive With No Possibility Of Recovery?

I am donating my old computers, and I insufficiency to erase EVERY TRACE of personal information, and all data, from my computers, with no possibility of recovery by those data recovery programs. I have been trying to find a beneficial program to do this, but it seems like they all cost lots of money or aren't good enough.

Answer: Check out out the drive manufactuers website for utilities. Usually there are installation & diagnostic utilites at one's fingertips.

What you are looking for is what used to be called a Low-Level Format program. Due to changes in current drives these are now Zero Fill utilities.

These programs will write zero's (0) on every sector of the coerce the entire drive will be erased leaving nothing but zeros. You can run this utility as many times as you like.
