Data Recovery From Hard Drive?

Ok, here's the contention:
Windows XP desktop. When computer turned on, lights on front panel light up and can hear fan whirl briefly, then all goes dead. Data on hard drive (in several folders), and you guessed it, it's not backed up.

Suggestions for recovering the data?

Answer: Take the disk out of the computer.

Set its jumper as 'workhorse' (should say how to do this on the drive)

Plug it into another computer (for IDE drives, make sure the IDE ribon is connected. Also remember the power guy - 4 wires, usually in a line, with a male connector on the end)

Boot up the flawed computer normally (make sure the disk is recognised by the BIOS first)

You should have access to the data then. If not, start>>run>>personification

Data Recovery From Hard Drive-Western Digital WD1600JS?

Western Digital WD1600JS. SATA Interface, 160.0 GB, 7200RPM. From a Dell Desktop Feeling? E310. My hard drive just doesn't work any more. It's about 4.5 years old. Comes up smutty screen when turned on. When hooked up to another computer, drains power, but doesn't cooperate. Was told that if there was a way to shed the "board" and replace with another one, it might work. Computer was NOT damaged, nor is the hard drive. It just isn't working. I at bottom don't want to pay "up

Answer: Physically non-effective hard drives aren't "fixable" by end-users, replacing internal parts is something that only drive manufacturers or revamping centers with an industrial-grade clean room and lots of expensive, specialized materiel can do...

However, the best software for retrieving data from bad/failed drives is SpinRite.

It's not secured (recovery can take hours or even days) but has an excellent record....

Data Recovery From Old Hard Drive, Found Text File--but Writing Gone?

What I wonderful is that first I had a faulty hard drive I plugged in via USB enclosure. Couldn't find any files I'd ever saved on it, only factory settings and bite music/pics. I did a data recovery scan on it and found all the documents I'd created. I saved them to a working hard drive. However, when I go to humanitarian them, allI see is a bunch of nonsense. Symbols, random letters etc. What do I do now? Is the data truly gone?

Also, this was simple of me I know, however, I'd been

Answer: Data recovery programs essentially sell hope, not results. Recovering a deleted file can be affected by so many things skin the control of the program that successful recoveries, as versus reported "recovered files", are rare.

Above, but those files are probably gone for good.

Answer: certificate your motherboard manual, but simply hook it up, and it should work.
If your SATA is the boot drive, you may have to vacillate turn into the boot order in the CMOS BIOS setup.
Since your topic was daat recovery....let me go one further.
If you have a yen for to REPLACE that drive with another, GHOST it to another drive (new one)
Partition magic can do this , or Norton (blecht) Ghost (the only unspoilt product they have) or other programs
they will image

Data Recovery?? Hard Drive?? Naughty Images??

Hi, I am interested, In ICT rank today I heard that say I had a hard drive which was 10GB with some naughty pictures on it, say (p0rn) and I deleted them and it showed the hard drive now had 10GB free span again?

I heard that the images can still be recovered from the hard drive using forensic computing men? I wanted to comprehend if the images are still there why would it say 10GB free space available??

Are the images still on the hard drive like really compressed??

Answer: The images are still there. What happens is that the Categorize Allocation Table (FAT) (that's an index of what the contents of the hard drive contains) is marked in such a way that the space that they make one's home in is marked as available to be written on. If you install new programmes, it occupies the space until, sooner, the area occupied by the pictures is written over. This could, of course, take many times at writing and re-criticism data. There are programmes available that will write
